We want to take you beyond the aesthetic of a shower vs. bathtub this week. When you're remodeling your bathroom, there's so much more to think about than just what the end result will look like. The hard part is pushing past the vision in your head for a little bit and really thinking about the pros and cons of each in an unbiased way. To help, we've compiled a list of questions to ask yourself when making the choice between a shower and a bathtub.
Ask yourself....
1. Do I and/or my family members take baths regularly?
When was the last time you actually stopped to take a bath? Is it something you really enjoy when you do get to take one, or do you prefer showers overall? There's no point in spending the money on a full bathtub if a shower will do. Put that extra cash toward a really nice shower head or some beautiful tiling!
2. Will a bathtub crowd my restroom?
Sometimes the space a home will allow for a bathroom is pretty cramped. It may be too much to put in a bathtub or even a rectangular shower. If a comfortable cleanse takes priority over the overall flow and space in your bathroom, then by all means install the bathtub of your dreams. If you can't handle scrunched spaces, however, consider a nice square shower.
3. Is a bathtub or shower going to be more comfortable to get into?
The higher walls of a bathtub can be uncomfortable for aching joints to step over, and can be a safety hazard for some. If this is a consideration for you, it would be better to look into getting a walk-in shower.
4. How important is personalization to me?
Some people love the idea of having every inch of their home reflect their personal taste and style. We love the creativity that we see and highly encourage it! That being said, it is often easier to be more individualistic with a shower than it is with a bathtub. But, that's not to say you can't incorporate your style into either. Ask your contractor for some ideas and see which one suits you!
5. Do I need a bathtub for my kids or pets?
Giving a toddler or dog a bath is SOOOOO much easier than trying to tackle a shower! If you have little ones or some furry friends in your house or on the way, definitely go with a bath.
6. Will I regret not having a bathtub?
Really think about your answer for this one. If you choose to go with a shower will you regret foregoing a luxurious bathtub? If you even think the answer might be "yes", we suggest looking into some shower-tub combos that will fit your budget. Get yourself a bathtub and enjoy it!
