Tips for A Clean Tile Shower

Showers of any kind can be hard to keep up with for cleaning. Scrubbing them down is laborious and frustrating for many, but it is a necessary evil to maintaining the closest thing most of us will ever have to a spa in our homes. Because of its inherent moisture-filled environment, showers can build up mold, mildew and other bacteria if left unattended. So to help make the process a little less daunting, here are 5 Floor Tip Thursday ideas to help you conquer your shower.

1) Get Your Pre-Game Going

Use a dry, mesh, non-scratch scrubbie to do some pre-scrubbing on your shower. The reason you do this is to loosen up any of the soap residue that may have made itself at home on your shower walls. You wouldn't try to wash a pan with baked-on food without first removing as much of the gunk as possible, right? That would make an even bigger mess in your sink and is likely to cause trouble later on in the process. Same thing goes for your shower.

From there, grab your favorite tile cleaner and apply it all over your shower. Be extra diligent in areas that have a lot of buildup. Once everything is covered, let it soak in peace for 5 to 10 minutes (or as directed on the container of your cleaning product). Allow the cleaner to eat away at all that icky mold, mildew, and scum lingering on your tiles and grout.

2) Scrub It Down

Use a scouring pad to scrub all of that nice, loose scum off your shower. We promise, this is the worse part. It will be over soon. Just be diligent to get every nook and cranny so you don't have to go through this again any earlier than you have to. Also, if you need to use a little more cleaner to get the job done, don't be afraid to do so.

3) Heat Things Up

Time to enjoy the satisfaction of seeing all of that product, mildew, and general nastiness wash away with some hot water. Please note that we did say HOT water. Cold water won't be nearly as affective at releasing any leftover gunk.

4) Dry and Done

You're almost there! All you have to do now is dry everything off. Not too bad, right? Just make sure you get it done as quickly as possible. It would be a shame to have all of the water spots you just got rid of reappear because the shower wasn't dried off!

Congratulations! You're done! Now yo can go enjoy that nice, clean, beautiful shower!
