Tips to keep your new carpet clean and nice looking

You recently have made a large investment in getting a new carpet floor installed, and with the right care, you’ll be able to keep it looking fresh for years to come.

Cleaning your carpet is actually easier than you think. Really it just takes the right cleaning supplies, the right vacuum, and a little extra knowledge (which is why we are here). Here are some tips for maintaining your recent investment.

  • As soon as you spill, treat it immediately. The longer the spill has to soak in, the harder it will be to remove. (Simple we know, yet very important)

  • Let’s say you spill some food, immediately remove the large content with a spoon or dull knife. Soon after add some water and blot the area. You can use some detergent sparingly if you think it’s needed. Then, using some high suction function on your vacuum, go back and forth and add water to the stain as you go until it’s cleaned.

  • Sometimes you need some spot removal, we recommend the Mohawk FloorCare Essentials Spot Remover.

Here are some simple everyday steps to keep that carpet color looking vibrant and texture feeling fresh.

  • Regularly vacuum your carpet from soil to prevent it embedding.

  • Use a rotating brush, suction or beater bar depending on what type of carpet you have.

  • We recommend getting your carpet professionally cleaned about every 12 months of about once per year.

  • When snags come, use scissors to clip, don’t pull or tug at area.

  • You can remove furniture dents by rubbing a coin along the area gently. You can also use a hair dryer or steam it, but be very careful to not touch the carpet with any iron to avoid burning.

We hope this keeps your carpet looking fresh for years to come!
