Way of the Mop - Kitchen Mopping Hacks You Need to Know!

With all of the grime, grease, and food that inevitably makes its way to your kitchen floor there is a great need for regular mopping. Whether you like to use a good, old fashioned mop and water bucket or a more modern spray-as-you go mop (like a Swiffer WetJet), you have options for making things easier and cheaper on yourself. Here are a few clever hacks to get the job done:

1. Fill your bucket easily with nothing more than your sink and a dust pan. All you have to do is place the wide end of the dustpan under your faucet and angle the handle over the edge of the sink so that it will funnel water from your sink to the bucket you've placed on the floor. This hack will take away the hassle of toting a heavy bucket of water from your bathroom shower to your kitchen every time you need a refill. Plus, filling a water bucket is more fun with a dustpan fountain!

2. If you have a tile floor with grout lines you probably know how ugly discolored grout can be. Cleaning those annoying lines is simple though! All you need to do is spray some Resolve Carpet Cleaner on your grout, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it up. Now you're ready to get rid of any left over residue when you mop the rest of your floor!

3. Some floors, like those made of wood, require you to use as little water as possible to avoid warping. So how do you get them clean? Simple! Instead of using a standard mop, use a dry mop and spray it with water as you go. Saves on time, water, and it won't ruin your floor!

*As a side note, always be sure to dry your wood floors thoroughly after mopping!

4. Since the kitchen is a high-traffic area in most homes, the kitchen floor has a tendency to become dingy. To fix this you can mop your floor with a mixture of half a cup of hydrogen peroxide and a gallon of hot water. Your floors will most likely come out looking great, though it's always a good idea to test new floor cleaning solutions in an inconspicuous spot first.

5. Do you remember the scene in the Pippi Longstocking movie where Pippi convinces her friends to mop the floor by attaching scrub brushes to their feet and skating around? Here's a similar idea so you can get your kids involved in the cleaning process! Have your kiddos put on some fun, fuzzy socks and then spray your floor with your favorite cleaning solution. They can then "mop" the floor by marching, dancing, and sliding around on it in their socks.

Happy Flooring!
